Military Life & Writing

How has being a military spouse influenced your writing or author journey?

"I started this journey after a PCS! I had lost a job because of the move, and when we got here, I realized that I couldn't afford daycare on the wages offered in the area, so I became a stay at home mom and decided to find a way to work without a work schedule. We tossed around silly ideas, but then he mentioned that I can tell a good story, and that made me remember my dreams as a kid. It seemed like the natural next step."

What's one challenge you've faced as a military spouse author and how did you overcome it?

"I'm still really early in this, but one of the biggest challenges has been trying to figure out how much to share with the other spouses in the command. Writing is such a personal thing, even when you're writing to publish, and it's not always easy to trust people with something that personal! I ended up choosing a pen name so that I could be deliberate with how I share this side around others."

Do you have any advice for fellow Military Spouse writers?

"Find your people. Whether it's the Milspouse Authors group on Facebook, or it's a group of writers that are local to you, or a group that's in the same genre you want to write, find them. Talk with them, ask your questions, share works with each other so you can get feedback, and make your community. Just as we have to make our own community at each duty station, do it for this. It'll help you avoid pitfalls and have people to celebrate with."

What's a fun fact about you?

"Iris of the Crowned Flame is perfect for readers who love slow-burn sapphic why-choose romance, courtly intrigue, and magic-infused mysteries. If you enjoy forbidden love, high-stakes political tension, and strong-willed heroines torn between duty and desire, you'll be hooked from the first page. Fans of romantasy with rich world-building, a touch of prophecy, and a heroine discovering her own power will find much to love. If you're drawn to stories like The Jasmine Throne or The Priory of the Orange Tree—where love defies expectation and magic reshapes destiny—this book is for you. And if you crave a cast of complex characters, including a brooding prince with secrets and a fierce best friend who holds the princess's heart, you won't want to put this down. For those who dream of love, power, and a kingdom on the brink—this story awaits you."

Princess Lyla never desired the throne or the marriage that comes with it. But when her mother, the Queen, dies under mysterious circumstances, Lyla must marry to ascend the throne. Their passion burns fiercely beneath the surface, but they hide it in constant fear of the consequences should their love be discovered. As suitors flood the palace, Lyla proposes a series of trials—a tournament where the men will compete for her hand. But as the competition intensifies, Lyla finds herself drawn to Prince Spencer, an old friend who brings new secrets. With the tournament fueling tension, Lyla’s heart is torn between her secret love for Amyra, a passion she can never fully embrace, and a growing attraction to Spencer, whose kindness and mysterious abilities stir emotions she’s afraid to confront.
