Author Profile

How would you describe yourself as an author?

"I'm a nonfiction writer who talks to readers like we're having a real conversation. I don't write like I'm giving a lecture or trying to show off how smart I am. Instead, I write like we're friends discussing interesting ideas together. My writing sounds like natural speech because that's exactly how I approach it—like we're chatting over coffee. I believe complicated ideas don't need complicated language. I use everyday words and examples that make sense to real people. What I want readers to get from my work is that feeling of 'Someone else gets it!' I write to connect with people as equals. I believe we learn best when we feel like we're figuring things out together. I'm happiest when readers feel both smarter after reading my work and comfortable, like they've spent time with someone who respects them and wants to help them understand new ideas in a friendly, straightforward way."

What's the primary genre you write in?

"Nonfiction parenting/education."

What's your writing experience?

"My whole life. I always had a journal growing up to write all of my thoughts down."

Published books:

  • Literacy Roots: Nurturing Your Child's Reading Journey from Birth to Brilliance (Nonfiction, 2025)

Military Life & Writing

How has being a military spouse influenced your writing or author journey?

"Moving from state to state multiple times with my husband and plus one, each time (plus two this upcoming one) has given me diverse settings and perspectives. I've become skilled at observing new communities quickly and incorporating those details into my work. The military community provides me with a diverse network of families whose children have varied literacy experiences. I regularly meet parents whose children thrive in reading and others whose children struggle. These contrasting journeys continue to inform my understanding of literacy development and provide a continuous education in diverse reading journeys that enriches my approach to supporting young readers. This lifestyle has also taught me practical writing discipline. I've learned to write in imperfect conditions. Military life doesn't accommodate ideal writing circumstances, so I've developed the ability to create despite disruption which comes in handy with all my children!"

What's one challenge you've faced as a military spouse author and how did you overcome it?

"Finding the time! I am a stay at home mom, I have a part time job and I'm raising 3 tiny humans, the bigger one isn't as demanding. Balancing everything that comes with that can be very difficult. It took me almost a year to write my book because I only had two hours a day to dedicated to it! However I capitalized on finding spare moments on top of my nap time quite and got it done!"

Do you have any advice for fellow Military Spouse writers?

"Never give up and keep on writing!"

What's a fun fact about you?

"Literacy Roots is a 17 year manuscript in the making! All the people mentioned in it I personally talk to, worked with and helped out! My memory isn't the best so I'm thankful I wrote so much down along the years!"
